Social Networks Help 2012 NBA All-Star Game Garnish 241 Million Followers

Twitter has become a large
advertising engine for the NBA
The National Basketball Association is a large enterprise that uses social media platforms to promote its brand. One of the largest events they advertise is the All-Star game, which was held last weekend in Orlando, Florida. In this article, which was published on The Huffington Post's website, Matthew Brabants, Senior Vice President of International Media Distribution and Business Operations in the NBA, said, “[We have] a fan base that's using their mobile phones, that's on Facebook, Twitter or Tencent in China.

So what we've done is made it a real priority to reach out to those fans directly and integrate with our partners in that outreach."One way they tried to involve their fan base was by allowing them to vote on the winner of the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest via either text or Twitter. Advertising, and using social media, has definitely benefited the NBA, and I completely support it. According to the article, this was the most followed All-Star game of all time, as 241 million people tuned in. These social media outlets permit onlookers to debate on pressing NBA topics, and they also serve to market what events are up and coming.
