In attempt to save the struggling home sales in the entertainment industry, Fox Filmed Entertainment is making a move toward a new platform, digital movies. Fox’s intentions are to create a line of high-definition versions of its films available online as a digital copy. These copies will begin with the release of the film “Prometheus” and will be available to consumers around three weeks before DVD and video-on-demand services. Consumers should benefit greatly from this digitization of the original film format. In addition to the early release dates, the digital films—provided by Fox—will be cheaper ($15 compared to $20). The increase availability and decreased prices of these films illustrate an upside to the digitization movement.
