Borderline Scary

While researching websites that compile personal information, I stumbled upon a website called spokeo.com. Spokeo.com, which claims to be "not your grandma's phonebook," has a search bar where you can type in the name, email, phone number, username or address of anyone you know. The free search results come back with incredibly personal information about the person; including their permanent address, first digits of their phone number, marital status, estimated home value, family background and a satellite image of their home. With the upgraded package, the searcher can see lots of more detailed information; including pictures, social profiles, gender, ethnicity, occupation and more.

Needless to say, spokeo.com definitely crosses the line in terms of personal privacy. While the site claims to gather its information solely on public record, the way in which it compiles personal information in one profile could be extremely dangerous. I see no beneficial reason for a stranger to be able to access a person's information this easily and accurately. After typing in my name and the names of a few of my friends, all of the results were spot-on.

Click to see if it works as accurately for you.
